JEE Advanced Cutoff 2026: Qualifying Marks and the JEE Main Percentile You Need

By Team JEE Prep Master · Updated 29 October 2026 · ~7 min read

To write JEE Advanced 2026, OPEN candidates needed 93.41 percentile in JEE Main (OBC-NCL 80.92, EWS 82.42, SC 63.92, ST 52.02). To get a rank, they then needed 92 out of 360 with 8 in each subject (OBC-NCL and EWS 82, SC, ST and PwD 46).

Here are all the official 2026 cutoffs, how many qualified, and the last rank that actually got an IIT seat.

Step 1: The JEE Main Percentile Needed for JEE Advanced

For 2026, the top 2,50,000 JEE Main candidates were shortlisted category-wise to write JEE Advanced; ties pushed the number to 2,50,174. These were the cutoff percentiles:

Step 2: Qualifying Marks in JEE Advanced 2026

Writing JEE Advanced isn't enough; you must also meet a minimum in each subject and in the total to get a rank. In 2026:

Rank listMinimum marks per subjectMinimum total (out of 360)As %
CRL (Common Rank List)8927.30% / 25.56%
OBC-NCL and GEN-EWS7826.51% / 22.78%
SC, ST and all PwD lists4463.65% / 12.78%
Preparatory course (IITs)2231.83% / 6.39%

Source: JEE (Advanced) 2026 Report, Volume I, sections 5.1 and 5.2 (p. 10).

The JoSAA Business Rules set default minimums of 10% per subject and 35% total for the CRL, but allow them to be lowered (note to clause 18). In 2026 they were relaxed so that at least twice as many candidates qualified as there were seats in each category: 56,880 of 1,79,694 candidates who sat both papers qualified (JEE (Advanced) 2026 Report, Volume I, executive summary).

The report counts every candidate on each list, so the CRL figure includes reserved-category students on the CRL who got seats in their own category. For OPEN gender-neutral seats, the last IIT program closed at CRL rank 18,977 in the 2026 final round. So qualifying is only the first gate: about 30,000 candidates had a CRL rank, but OPEN IIT seats ran out well before that. See JEE Advanced marks vs rank for the marks behind these ranks.

Don't Forget the Board Marks Rule

Even with a rank, an IIT seat needs 75% in Class 12 (65% for SC, ST and PwD) or a place in the top 20 percentile of your board. See JoSAA 75% criteria.
