JEE Main 2027 Exam Date: Session 1 and Session 2

NTA conducts JEE Main twice a year. You can appear in one session or both, and if you take both, your better NTA score is used for the merit list. Here is where each session stands today.

Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) is usually spread across the first five or six days, and Paper 2 (B.Arch/B.Planning) is usually given one day of its own. The paper-wise split for 2027 will appear in the bulletin.

JEE Main 2027 Session 2 Exam Date (Expected)

NTA has not announced Session 2 dates yet. Based on previous years, Session 2 is expected in the first half of April 2027, with registration in February 2027. In 2026, Session 2 ran in early April. We will add the exact dates here as soon as NTA confirms them.

Important: NTA has said that its examination calendar is not the official notification for any exam. The Session 1 dates are tentative until the JEE Main 2027 Information Bulletin is released. In recent years the calendar dates have held, but always confirm on jeemain.nta.nic.in before you plan travel.

JEE Main 2027 Registration Date and Form Fill Up Date

The JEE Main 2027 form fill up date has not been announced yet. Registration for Session 1 is expected to open in late October 2026, on the same day NTA releases the notification. For reference, JEE Main 2026 Session 1 registration ran from 31 October to 27 November 2025, and Session 2 registration from 1 to 25 February 2026.

JEE Main 2027 Registration Last Date for Session 1

If NTA follows its 2026 schedule, the Session 1 window will stay open for about four weeks and close in the last week of November 2026. The fee payment deadline is usually the same day, a few hours after the form deadline. Do not wait for the last date: the portal slows down in the final days and payment failures are common.

How to Fill the JEE Main 2027 Application Form

Registration is fully online on jeemain.nta.nic.in. Once the link opens, the process usually takes 30–40 minutes if your documents are ready.

  1. Register with your name, date of birth, email and mobile number. Recent cycles have used ID verification (such as Aadhaar or DigiLocker/APAAR), so keep your ID details exactly as printed.
  2. Fill the application form: personal details, Class 10 and 12 details, category, paper choice and four exam city preferences.
  3. Upload documents in the size and format the bulletin specifies.
  4. Pay the fee online through UPI, net banking, debit or credit card.
  5. Download the confirmation page and keep a printout. Note your application number and password safely.

Documents to keep ready now

  • A recent passport-size photograph with a light background, showing your face clearly.
  • Your scanned signature, done in black ink on white paper.
  • Class 10 marksheet (used for your name and date of birth).
  • A valid photo ID, with the name matching your Class 10 records.
  • Category certificate (OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST) in the central government format, if applicable. OBC-NCL and EWS certificates must be recent, so apply for renewal now if yours is old.
  • PwD certificate, if applicable.
The mistake we see most: a mismatch between the name in the application and the name on the Class 10 certificate or ID (a missing middle name, a different spelling). It becomes a problem at the exam centre and again during JoSAA document verification. Copy your name exactly as it appears on your Class 10 certificate.

JEE Main 2027 Registration Fees

The JEE Main 2027 registration fees will be confirmed in the bulletin. For reference, the fees for one paper at an exam centre in India in JEE Main 2026 were:

CategoryFee (one paper, centres in India)
General / OBC-NCL / EWS: male₹1,000
General / OBC-NCL / EWS: female₹800
SC / ST / PwD / Transgender₹500

Fees are paid online only. Separate fees apply for both papers and for exam centres outside India; see the official bulletin.

The exam date is fixed. Your weak chapters don't have to be.

Most students lose JEE Main marks on four or five chapters they only half understand. One focused session with an IITian faculty member fixes a chapter faster than another month of lectures. Pick your faculty and duration, and we schedule the session at a time that suits you.

JEE Main 2027 Shift Timings and Reporting Time

Your admit card will tell you your date, shift and centre. NTA assigns shifts randomly, and you cannot choose one. Based on the 2026 pattern, the timings are expected to be:

ShiftExam timeGate opens (approx.)Gate closes
Shift 1 (Morning)9:00 AM – 12:00 Noon7:00–7:30 AM8:30 AM
Shift 2 (Afternoon)3:00 PM – 6:00 PM1:00–1:30 PM2:30 PM
Paper 2A + 2B together3 hours 30 minutes (9:00 AM – 12:30 PM or 3:00 PM – 6:30 PM)As on admit cardAs on admit card

The gate closing time is strict. Students are turned away every year for arriving a few minutes late, usually because they underestimated the security check and biometric queue. Aim to reach at least 90 minutes early, and visit the centre a day before if it is in an unfamiliar part of the city.

What to carry on exam day

  • Printed admit card with the self-declaration (undertaking) filled in and your photo pasted where required.
  • One original, valid photo ID: Aadhaar, PAN card, passport, driving licence, voter ID or school/board ID as allowed in the bulletin.
  • An extra passport-size photograph matching the one uploaded in your application.
  • A transparent water bottle and a simple transparent ball-point pen, if permitted by the admit card instructions.
  • PwD certificate if you are claiming a scribe or compensatory time.

Rough sheets are provided at the centre. Calculators, watches, phones and any electronic device are not allowed.

JEE Main 2027 Admit Card and Exam City Slip

NTA releases two documents before the exam, both on jeemain.nta.nic.in:

  • Exam city intimation slip: about 10 days before the exam. It tells you the city, not the exact centre, so you can plan travel.
  • JEE Main 2027 admit card: 3 to 4 days before your exam date. It shows your date, shift, centre address and reporting time.

For Session 1, expect the city slip in mid-January 2027 and admit cards from around 18–19 January 2027 for the first exam day. You will need your application number and password or date of birth to download both. Check every detail on the admit card as soon as you download it; if anything is wrong, contact NTA's helpdesk immediately.

JEE Main 2027 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

The pattern below is the one used in JEE Main 2025 and 2026. NTA will confirm the 2027 pattern in the Information Bulletin, and we will update this section if anything changes.

FeaturePaper 1 (B.E./B.Tech)
ModeComputer-based test (CBT)
Duration3 hours
SubjectsPhysics, Chemistry, Mathematics
Questions75 in total: 25 per subject (20 MCQs + 5 numerical value questions)
Total marks300 (100 per subject)
Marking+4 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong answer, 0 for unattempted
Languages13 languages, including English and Hindi

Two practical points follow from this pattern. First, all 75 questions are compulsory, so there are no optional numericals to skip. Second, negative marking applies to numerical questions as well as MCQs, so guessing a numerical answer is no longer free. Accuracy matters as much as speed.

JEE Main 2027 Syllabus

NTA revised and trimmed the JEE Main syllabus from 2024, and the same revised syllabus was used in 2025 and 2026. The JEE Main 2027 syllabus will be published with the Information Bulletin; unless NTA announces a change, expect it to stay the same, so you can prepare from the 2026 syllabus with confidence.

Each subject carries equal marks, but chapters within a subject do not. Our chapter guides break down JEE Main 2024–2026 and JEE Advanced PYQs sub-topic by sub-topic with real question counts, so you know where the marks in each part of the syllabus actually come from.

Maths chapter guides

Negative marking on numericals makes half-learnt chapters expensive

With all 75 questions compulsory and −1 on numericals too, guessing is no longer free. Clear the exact concepts you keep getting wrong in a live 1-on-1 session, in Physics, Chemistry or Maths.

JEE Main 2027 Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for JEE Main is broad. The main conditions, based on the 2026 bulletin, are:

  • Year of passing Class 12: you must have passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026, or be appearing for Class 12 in 2027.
  • Subjects: for B.E./B.Tech, Physics and Mathematics are compulsory in Class 12, along with one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject.
  • Age: there is no minimum or maximum age limit to appear. Institutes may have their own age rules for admission.
  • Attempts: because of the passing-year rule, you effectively get three consecutive years, with up to two sessions each year.

The 75% rule: for admission, not for appearing

You can sit for JEE Main with any Class 12 percentage. The 75% condition (65% for SC/ST) applies only when you take admission to NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs through JoSAA. If you score below 75%, you can still qualify if you are in the top 20 percentile of your board. Many students discover this rule during counselling, which is too late, so check your board's top-20-percentile cutoff early if your boards are a concern.

What Happens After JEE Main 2027

JEE Main is the first step in a sequence, and each step decides the next:

  • NTA score and rank: after Session 2, NTA publishes the All India Rank using your best score across the two sessions.
  • JEE Advanced 2027: roughly the top 2.5 lakh Paper 1 candidates (across categories) become eligible for JEE Advanced, which is the only route to the IITs.
  • JoSAA counselling: seats at IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs are allotted through JoSAA, usually from June. Your JEE Main rank decides NIT, IIIT and GFTI seats; your JEE Advanced rank decides IIT seats.
  • State counselling such as JAC Delhi and many state engineering admissions also use JEE Main scores.

If you want to see which colleges your expected rank can get you, our JoSAA counselling guide and college predictor uses actual final-round closing ranks. For a step-by-step walkthrough of rounds, choice filling and float/freeze decisions, read our complete JoSAA counselling guide.

Your JEE Main percentile decides your NIT and IIIT options

A few extra correct answers can move you thousands of ranks, which is often the difference between a branch you want and one you settle for. Work on your weakest subject 1-on-1 while there is still time.

How to Use the Time Left Before JEE Main 2027

From the start of October you have about 16 weeks until 22 January. Here is a realistic way to split them if you are in Class 12 and also have boards later in the year.

October to mid-November: finish and fix

Complete the syllabus you have not studied yet, and start with the chapters that appear most often in PYQs rather than the chapters you find most interesting. Register as soon as the form opens so you are not uploading documents during the busy final week. Start one full-length mock every week so you get used to three hours of sustained work.

Mid-November to December: PYQ-first revision

Solve the last three years of JEE Main questions chapter-wise, using our Physics, Chemistry and Maths PYQ guides as a map of what to prioritise. PYQs show you which sub-topics NTA actually tests and at what difficulty, which is more useful than solving random advanced problems. Increase mocks to two per week and analyse every test: note each question you got wrong and why (concept, calculation, or misreading).

January: speed, accuracy and calm

Switch to full mocks in your likely shift timing (either 9 AM or 3 PM), revise formula sheets daily and stop adding new material in the last 7–10 days. Sleep matters more than one extra mock in the final week.

Common Mistakes Students Make With JEE Main Dates and Registration

Waiting for the last week to register. The site slows down near the deadline and payment failures are common. Register in the first week the form is open.
Skipping Session 1 to "prepare fully" for Session 2. Session 1 is a free, full-scale attempt at the real exam. Your better score counts, so there is no downside to appearing twice.
Choosing exam cities carelessly. Pick cities you can reach easily in the morning. A 6 AM travel start on exam day costs marks.
Ignoring the correction window. Check your submitted form carefully once the correction window opens; after it closes, most fields cannot be changed.
Trusting unofficial date posts. Only jeemain.nta.nic.in and nta.ac.in are official. Screenshots on social media are often old or wrong.
Start before registration opens, not after

Students who fix their weak chapters in October and November go into January with three revision cycles behind them. Book your first session today and our team will contact you to set the schedule.

When will the JEE Main 2027 admit card be released?

The exam city intimation slip usually comes about 10 days before the exam, and the admit card 3 to 4 days before your exam date, on jeemain.nta.nic.in.

Is the JEE Main 2027 exam date final?

The January dates come from NTA's tentative calendar, which NTA says is not the formal notification. They become final once the JEE Main 2027 Information Bulletin is published, expected in late October 2026.

Conclusion

The JEE Main 2027 exam date for Session 1 is 22–24 and 28–30 January 2027, with Session 2 expected in April. The next big milestone is the notification and registration in late October, so get your documents ready now and register early. Then put the remaining weeks into PYQ-based revision and regular mocks, because that is where percentiles actually move.
