The JEE Main 2027 exam date for Session 1 is now known. According to the tentative examination calendar published by the National Testing Agency on nta.ac.in, JEE Main 2027 Session 1 will be held on 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30 January 2027, with 31 January 2027 kept as a buffer day. Session 2 is expected in April 2027. The detailed notification, the Information Bulletin and the registration link are expected on jeemain.nta.nic.in in October 2026.

Every line in the timeline is labelled either Confirmed or Expected, so you always know what NTA has actually announced and what is based on previous years. We update this page the same day NTA releases anything new.
NTA conducts JEE Main twice a year. You can appear in one session or both, and if you take both, your better NTA score is used for the merit list. Here is where each session stands today.

Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) is usually spread across the first five or six days, and Paper 2 (B.Arch/B.Planning) is usually given one day of its own. The paper-wise split for 2027 will appear in the bulletin.
NTA has not announced Session 2 dates yet. Based on previous years, Session 2 is expected in the first half of April 2027, with registration in February 2027. In 2026, Session 2 ran in early April. We will add the exact dates here as soon as NTA confirms them.
The table below maps every stage from notification to result. Dates marked "Expected" are based on how NTA ran the JEE Main 2026 cycle, when the Session 1 notification came out on 31 October 2025 and registration closed on 27 November 2025.

The JEE Main 2027 form fill up date has not been announced yet. Registration for Session 1 is expected to open in late October 2026, on the same day NTA releases the notification. For reference, JEE Main 2026 Session 1 registration ran from 31 October to 27 November 2025, and Session 2 registration from 1 to 25 February 2026.

If NTA follows its 2026 schedule, the Session 1 window will stay open for about four weeks and close in the last week of November 2026. The fee payment deadline is usually the same day, a few hours after the form deadline. Do not wait for the last date: the portal slows down in the final days and payment failures are common.
Registration is fully online on jeemain.nta.nic.in. Once the link opens, the process usually takes 30–40 minutes if your documents are ready.
The JEE Main 2027 registration fees will be confirmed in the bulletin. For reference, the fees for one paper at an exam centre in India in JEE Main 2026 were:

Your admit card will tell you your date, shift and centre. NTA assigns shifts randomly, and you cannot choose one. Based on the 2026 pattern, the timings are expected to be:

The gate closing time is strict. Students are turned away every year for arriving a few minutes late, usually because they underestimated the security check and biometric queue. Aim to reach at least 90 minutes early, and visit the centre a day before if it is in an unfamiliar part of the city.
Rough sheets are provided at the centre. Calculators, watches, phones and any electronic device are not allowed.
NTA releases two documents before the exam, both on jeemain.nta.nic.in:
For Session 1, expect the city slip in mid-January 2027 and admit cards from around 18–19 January 2027 for the first exam day. You will need your application number and password or date of birth to download both. Check every detail on the admit card as soon as you download it; if anything is wrong, contact NTA's helpdesk immediately.
The pattern below is the one used in JEE Main 2025 and 2026. NTA will confirm the 2027 pattern in the Information Bulletin, and we will update this section if anything changes.

Two practical points follow from this pattern. First, all 75 questions are compulsory, so there are no optional numericals to skip. Second, negative marking applies to numerical questions as well as MCQs, so guessing a numerical answer is no longer free. Accuracy matters as much as speed.
NTA revised and trimmed the JEE Main syllabus from 2024, and the same revised syllabus was used in 2025 and 2026. The JEE Main 2027 syllabus will be published with the Information Bulletin; unless NTA announces a change, expect it to stay the same, so you can prepare from the 2026 syllabus with confidence.

You can sit for JEE Main with any Class 12 percentage. The 75% condition (65% for SC/ST) applies only when you take admission to NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs through JoSAA. If you score below 75%, you can still qualify if you are in the top 20 percentile of your board. Many students discover this rule during counselling, which is too late, so check your board's top-20-percentile cutoff early if your boards are a concern.

From the start of October you have about 16 weeks until 22 January. Here is a realistic way to split them if you are in Class 12 and also have boards later in the year.
Complete the syllabus you have not studied yet, and start with the chapters that appear most often in PYQs rather than the chapters you find most interesting. Register as soon as the form opens so you are not uploading documents during the busy final week. Start one full-length mock every week so you get used to three hours of sustained work.
Solve the last three years of JEE Main questions chapter-wise, using our Physics, Chemistry and Maths PYQ guides as a map of what to prioritise. PYQs show you which sub-topics NTA actually tests and at what difficulty, which is more useful than solving random advanced problems. Increase mocks to two per week and analyse every test: note each question you got wrong and why (concept, calculation, or misreading).
Switch to full mocks in your likely shift timing (either 9 AM or 3 PM), revise formula sheets daily and stop adding new material in the last 7–10 days. Sleep matters more than one extra mock in the final week.
