To take any of these seats you also need 75% in Class 12 (65% for SC, ST and PwD) or a place in your board's top 20 percentile. The list follows the 2026 seat matrix; new 2027 institutes and branches are added when JoSAA publishes the 2027 seat matrix. B.Arch and B.Planning outside the IITs use the Paper 2 rank, so they aren't included.

Real result

Ishaan Singh: AIR 2046 in JEE Advanced 2026, now at IIT Delhi, Mechanical Engineering

Against 2025 cutoffs, IIT Delhi Mechanical closed at AIR 1,862, so his rank made it a Reach choice. In 2026 it closed at 2,131 in Round 1 and he got the seat. That's why Reach choices belong at the top of your list: about a third of them come through.

Why this JoSAA predictor is different

Most college predictors compare your rank with last year's closing rank and stop there. We built ours the way a careful counsellor works, then tested it on four years of real JoSAA results before offering it to you.

Tested on real JoSAA results

We hid the 2025 and 2026 results, predicted them from earlier years, then checked what actually happened to nearly 21,000 seats and 1,600 simulated students across every category.

Got a seat
100%of students

Every student in our test got a seat from their Smart List.

Safe choices
98%came true

Your backup seats. Almost certain.

Every chance
±1point

The chances we showed matched the real results within 1 point.

A Reach choice is your chance to move up. JoSAA always gives you the highest choice on your list that your rank can get, so a Reach choice that doesn't come through costs you nothing: your Likely and Safe choices are still waiting below it. Skip your Reach choices and you give up those seats for nothing. Ishaan's IIT Delhi seat was a Reach choice.

What we built into it

Tested before we sold it

Checked against official JoSAA results from 2023 to 2026, and we publish the numbers. Most predictors show no test at all.

The tougher of two years

Cutoffs often bounce back after a year of moving. So we compare your rank with the tougher of the last two closing ranks, which made Safe predictions more reliable than using last year alone.

Three years on every row

See the 2026, 2025 and 2024 closing ranks side by side, so you can judge the trend for each seat yourself.

Honest warnings

Seats that swing a lot from year to year (PwD seats, or seats closing under 1,000) and new seats with one year of data are flagged, and called Safe only when your rank is far inside the closing rank.

The right rank for every seat

CRL rank for open seats, category rank for category seats, PwD ranks for PwD seats, female-only seats for girls, Home State or Other State quota from your state, and the Goa, J&K and Ladakh quotas.

IITs and NITs in one list

Have both ranks? Enter both. IITs and IISc are checked with your JEE Advanced rank, the rest with your JEE Main rank, in one list, just like the JoSAA portal.

Filled in the right order

Reach first, then Likely, then Safe, so you never lose a better seat to a lower choice. Within each group, your branch and city preferences come first.

Your branches and cities

Tap branches in the order you want. Add cities or states and put them first, or show only those.

A built-in safety net

Even a short list keeps enough Safe choices, and we warn you if you have fewer than 10.

Official data only

Every number is from the official JoSAA tables: all 2026 rounds plus the final rounds of 2023, 2024 and 2025. 138 institutes, 13,292 seat rows. Nothing estimated.

Checked seat by seat

Before every update, we test the checker against 443 real seats from the official tables, covering every category, quota, gender and PwD seat type.

How JoSAA counselling works

Register and fill choices

After JEE Advanced results, register on the JoSAA portal and fill your choices: institute and branch pairs in the order you want them. You can change the order until choice locking.

Seats are allotted round by round

JoSAA runs several rounds. In each round you get the highest choice your rank allows, based on that round's closing ranks.

Freeze, float or slide

Freeze: accept the seat and stop. Float: keep the seat but stay in the race for a higher choice anywhere. Slide: keep the seat but only move to a better branch in the same institute.

Pay, report and keep watching

Accept the seat, pay the seat acceptance fee and upload documents before the deadline in every round, or the seat is cancelled. Seats left after JoSAA go to CSAB special rounds for NITs, IIITs and GFTIs.

Rules that change what you can get

  • Home State quota: NITs keep half their seats for candidates from their own state, so closing ranks under Home State (HS) are often very different from Other State (OS). Pick your home state above to see the right one.
  • Female-only seats: supernumerary seats for female candidates are added in IITs and NITs, with their own closing ranks. Female candidates are considered for both gender-neutral and female-only seats.
  • Category rank vs CRL: reserved-category candidates compete for OPEN seats with their CRL rank and for reserved seats with their category rank, so enter both.
  • Closing ranks move every year. Use them as a guide, not a guarantee. A Likely or Reach seat is still worth putting in your list in the right place.

JoSAA counselling FAQs

When does JoSAA counselling 2027 start?

The official JoSAA counselling 2027 dates are not out yet. JoSAA usually starts a day or two after the JEE Advanced result, so expect registration in early June 2027. In 2026, registration and choice filling ran from 2 to 11 June and the final round was allotted on 16 July. Check josaa.nic.in for the official 2027 schedule.

What was the JoSAA 2026 counselling schedule?

JoSAA 2026 had five rounds. Registration and choice filling: 2 to 11 June. Mock allotments: 8 and 10 June. Round 1: 13 June. Round 2: 30 June. Round 3: 6 July. Round 4: 10 July. Round 5 (final): 16 July. NIT+ partial admission fee: 22 to 24 July. Expect the JoSAA counselling 2027 schedule to follow a similar pattern.

How do I register for JoSAA counselling 2027?

Go to josaa.nic.in when registration opens and log in with your JEE Main application number and password. Fill in your choices of institutes and branches in order of preference, then lock them before the deadline. Registration and choice filling are free. Use the Smart List to get your choices in the right order before you start.

What are the JoSAA counselling fees?

There is no fee to register or fill choices. When you accept a seat, you pay the seat acceptance fee: in 2026 it was Rs 30,000 for General, EWS and OBC-NCL candidates and Rs 15,000 for SC, ST and PwD candidates. Candidates with an NIT, IIIT or GFTI seat also paid a partial admission fee after the last round: Rs 45,000 (General, EWS, OBC-NCL) or Rs 20,000 (SC, ST). Check the JoSAA 2027 brochure for this year's amounts.

Is there a JoSAA counselling 2027 PDF?

JoSAA publishes its official information brochure and business rules as PDFs on josaa.nic.in, usually in late May or early June. For your own college list as a PDF, open the Smart List and use "Print or save as PDF".

Where can I see JoSAA 2026 opening and closing ranks?

Right on this page. Use the cutoff explorer above to see the official JoSAA 2026 opening and closing ranks for every institute, branch, category, quota and gender, for every round, with 2025 final-round ranks for comparison.

Where does this data come from?

Every number comes from the official JoSAA Opening and Closing Rank tables published on josaa.admissions.nic.in: 2026, all rounds, plus the final rounds of 2023, 2024 and 2025.

What do Safe, Likely and Reach mean?

Each option in the Smart List shows your chance of getting it. Safe (90% or better) are your backup seats. Likely (60 to 89%) are strong options you should expect to get. Reach (20 to 59%) are better colleges you have a real shot at. We tested this on official JoSAA results from 2023 to 2026, nearly 21,000 seat results: every simulated student got a seat from their list, Safe choices came true 98% of the time, and every chance we showed matched the real result within 1 point. A Reach choice costs you nothing, because JoSAA gives you the highest choice your rank can get and your Likely and Safe choices stay below it. Seats that swing a lot and new seats with only one year of data are marked Safe only when your rank is far inside the closing rank. Fill Reach choices first, then Likely, then Safe.

How is this JoSAA predictor different from others?

Most predictors compare your rank with last year's closing rank only. Ours uses three years of official closing ranks, compares your rank with the tougher of the last two, flags seats that swing a lot and new seats, uses the right rank for every seat type and quota, and puts IITs and NITs in one list in the order you should fill them. We tested it on official JoSAA results from 2023 to 2026 and publish the results: Safe options came true 98% of the time.

Which rank should I enter?

For IITs and IISc, enter your JEE Advanced ranks. For NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, enter your JEE Main ranks. If you have both, choose Both and enter both: JoSAA takes one choice list for all of them, and the checker merges them into one list. If you are EWS, OBC-NCL, SC or ST, also enter your category rank.

Can I get an NIT through the Home State quota?

Yes. For JoSAA, your home state is the state where you passed Class 12, not where you live. Choose it and the checker uses Home State closing ranks for the NIT in your state and Other State ranks for the rest. Compare the two in the cutoff explorer.

Is the rank checker really free?

Yes. Add your name and WhatsApp number and you can see your top 150 options and every official cutoff for free. The Smart List adds the right order, your chance for each option, branch and city preferences, and download or print. Premium adds a one-on-one review of your list by our counselling expert, guided by an IITian, and WhatsApp support.

What happens after JoSAA rounds end?

Vacant NIT, IIIT and GFTI seats go to CSAB special rounds. Premium WhatsApp support continues through the CSAB rounds.

Which year's cutoffs do you use to predict 2027?

We use the official JoSAA final closing ranks for 2026, 2025 and 2024, the latest available. Your chance is based on the tougher of the 2025 and 2026 closing ranks. We tested this method by predicting 2025 from 2023 and 2024, and 2026 from 2024 and 2025: options marked Safe came true 98% of the time.

How long can I use the Smart List?

As often as you like until November 2027, which covers all JoSAA and CSAB 2027 rounds.

What is your refund policy?

The Smart List can't be refunded once you have opened it. Premium is fully refunded if you cancel before our expert starts reviewing your list.
